We are glad you asked! Our nonprofit is named in honor of one of our favorite Saints: Saint Melangell! Saint Melangell was a 6th-century Celtic saint whose life and ministry embodied sanctuary, compassion, and protection for all living things. She is known for sheltering a frightened hare beneath her robes from a hunting party that was pursing it, inspiring a local prince to grant her some of his own land as an animal sanctuary.
As Melangellites, we seek to carry forward her mission by protecting animals and providing a safe, peaceful space where people seeking healing can find peace within the beauty of God’s creation and a therapeutic connection to God’s animal kingdom.
